Class Is In Session

PHZ-Sicks (pronounced Physics) is a 22 year old hip hop sensation hailing from Woodbridge, VA, and reppin the DMV (DC, MD,VA) region. His influences come from the best of out of NYC, The Midwest , and The South. His latest mixtape, “Less Than Zero” is a conceptual mixtape that follows “Kristofer Williams” as he goes through through the trials and tribulations of life, the music industry, and relationships. This is an extremely clever conceptual mixtape that any hip hop fan should be able to relate to, and it is probably better than most albums released this year. If you like lyrics that make you think twice and production that will get you off your feet, then this is for you. Another DMV rapper who is making waves on the hip hop scene, (“ala” Wale) PHZ-Sicks WILL be someone you hear about in the near future. Please wake up and listen so you don’t miss out on this scientist of spoken word.

“Hands Up” off the new mixtape “Less Than Zero”
8thW1

With a lyrical blend that is part scholar and part swagger, the New Jersey native 8thW1 is bringing a new, yet eerily familiar flow to the hip hop game. His 2008 album Lovemoneyandmusic was an excitingly deep showcase that featured his fast paced but clear rhyming style. He is a conscious rapper who is not overtly social, and fashioned b-boy who is not too materialistic. At first listen, one may say he is a mix of Eminem, Kanye West, and Lupe Fiasco, but the East Coast native is making a name for his own. Check him out at lovemoneyandmusic.com or http://www.myspace.com/8thw1.

St. Clair’s Finest: Chip the Ripper
Chip Tha Ripper

Cleveland has long suffered from being renown in the hip hop universe based on the success of just one hip hop act (Bone Thugs N Harmony). Now cats like Kid Cudi and Chip Tha Ripper are here to change this distinction. Chip Tha Ripper introduces a fresh approach to the mic displaying the necessary skills to propel him to hip hop stardom. Some of the images he depicts are so ridiculous you can’t help but laugh and appreciate the man’s wit. Check out “Baby Man” and tell me what you think.
